EkOS System

a resilient alliance for coral

Our planet’s future is at stake.

One path sees humanity’s growth harming our environment, while the other brings hope through innovation and technology.

The choice we make now matters.

The issue is visible in our relationship with coral reefs.

Human actions endanger them, but there’s potential in community efforts and technology to save them.

We must upgrade to a global system where everyone becomes a guardian of our planet.

EkOS offers a solution with a coral commons and a platform for collaboration.

     EkOS Principles:

  • Science-based goals.
  • Citizen stewardship for all.
  • Sharing effective methods.
  • Transparent outcomes.
  • Storytelling for shared action.

EkOS System: A Resilient Alliance for Coral

…bringing together the best of human creativity, culture, and innovation to guide coral reefs and our planet toward the tomorrow that we want.

01- Science-based targets: Evidence driven standards and coordination

02 – Citizen Stewardship: a workforce of all of humanity engaging locally

03 – Resilient Mechanisms: Human capital is allocated through a Transparent Exchange (EkOS System Marketplace) with a Toolkit of validated methodologies, including innovative methods for Monitoring Verification and Reporting (MRV) and implementation of international standards.

04 – Transparent Outcomes – stewardship, reporting, reward and dissemination are intertwined.

05 – Storytelling – Success and failures, truths, new narratives and myths must be shared for shared action to work.

Three-Year Focus:

Build the Commons: Share the coral story.
Load a New OS: Apply science and economics.
Change the World: Connect resources and action.

EkOS is an alliance from the Resilient Collective, whose founding members include the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the University of California San Diego, and coastal ecosystem restoration organizations SeaTrees and Ocean Gardners.

We’re inspired by and modeled after the Global Commons Alliance and the Stockholm Resilience Network, hoping to ally with and take lessons from sustainable markets and stewardship efforts globally.

The name EkOS combines the Greek meaning of home, with ecology and economy – to create a new Operating System (OS) for Coral (and all our) Health.
